Seven Lakes is a hard hike in Oregon's Sky Lakes Wilderness, part of the High Cascades Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests. The trail is 11 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 2,360 feet, and it is an out-and-back route that peaks at 6,901 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 2 miles in, where the grade reaches 22 percent. The trail is on natural surface and is open to horses. Bikes are not allowed, and the route is not accessible. The Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Crater Lake show July and August highs around 69°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the low 30s and rain on 17 or 18 days. The trip takes about five hours. Lower South Fork Campground is about 3 miles away, and the Middle Fork Rogue River is about 5.5 miles away for paddling.
