Road 440 is a short, easy hike in the Philomath Unit of Oregon, about 1.3 miles long and roughly 420 feet of elevation gain one way. It starts at about 540 feet and climbs to about 930 feet, with the steepest stretch around 0.3 miles in at a 24% grade. The route also has a small drop of about 340 feet, so the total round-trip gain is about 420 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Corvallis show July and August highs in the low 80s with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the upper 40s and rain on most days. The Ritz and Tunnel Vision are both about 1.3 miles away, and Bonzai Trail and Powderhouse Trail are each about 1.6 miles off.
