Rainy-Wahtum is a hard hike of about 10 miles in the Hood River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is natural-surfaced and shaped as an out-and-back, with a one-way climb of about 700 feet from a starting point near 4,100 feet to a high point of about 4,470 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.1 miles in, with a grade of about 25 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. Rainy Lake campground sits just 0.1 mile from the trail, and Black Lake campground is about 0.8 mile away. The Herman Creek Cutoff Trail #410 and the North Lake hike are each about a mile off.
