The Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon runs through the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 33.7 miles, with a one-way climb of roughly 1,133 feet from a starting point around 5,580 feet to a high point of about 6,164 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 14.5 miles, where the grade reaches 45 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs in the low 70s with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days. Horses are allowed on this section. The Many Lakes Trail #15 and the Metolius-Windigo Trail both lie about 1.5 miles away, and North Waldo campground is about 4 miles off. Crane Prairie Reservoir, about 8 miles away, offers lake fishing.
