Moraine Lake is a hard hike in Oregon's Three Sisters Wilderness, on the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the nearest town is Elk Lake, about 4 miles away. The route is an out-and-back of about 8.5 miles, with a total climb of roughly 1,800 feet. The trail starts at about 6,055 feet and reaches a high point of about 6,718 feet. The steepest stretch comes around mile 2.9, where the grade reaches about 16 percent. Horses are allowed, and the trail surface is natural. Bikes are not. Several other destinations sit close by. Wickiup Plains is less than a mile away, and the South Sister Climber and Elk-Devils hikes are each about 1.4 miles off. Devils Lake campground is also about 1.4 miles away.
