Katsuk Pond is an 8-mile out-and-back hike on natural surface in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, within the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District. The trail climbs from a starting elevation of about 5,067 feet to a high point of about 5,486 feet, a gain of roughly 458 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 1.3 miles, where the grade reaches 10 percent. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is rated hard. Bicycles and horses are both allowed on the trail. Summer is the most comfortable season to go. Typical averages from the nearby Sunriver weather station, which sits about 1,300 feet lower than the trail, run to highs of 84°F in July and 83°F in August, while winter highs there hover around 40°F. The trail is open year round, so there is no off-season to plan around. Quinn Springs is just 0.2 miles away, and Quinn Creek is about 1.2 miles off. Elk Lake Campground and Hosmer Lake, a fishing spot, both lie within about 2 miles.
