McCoy #6 - Boulder Ridge Route is a 9.4-mile loop hike in the Detroit Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated moderate, with a total climb of 1,634 feet and a total descent of the same, making it a balanced loop rather than a one-way route. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 2.1 miles in, where the grade reaches 22%. The route starts at roughly 3,396 feet and peaks at about 4,411 feet, so plan for a steady climb before the descent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Santiam Junction weather station, which sits about 660 feet lower, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 38°F and lows near 24°F. Boulder Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 1.4 miles away.
