Jackstrawed Tarry is a short hike on City Land within L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park in northwest Oregon. Rated easy, it runs 0.46 miles one way with about 190 feet of climbing in that direction. As an out-and-back, the full trip covers 0.92 miles and about 360 feet of gain round trip, with the same amount of descent. The route stays between roughly 890 and 1,090 feet in elevation. Its steepest pitch, around a 12 percent grade, comes about 0.28 miles in. With so little distance, it works as a quick outing or as a piece of a longer loop with neighboring trails. Summer is the most comfortable season. At the nearby Vernonia weather station, typical July and August highs are in the upper 70s with only about four wet days a month. That station sits nearly 470 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures here run a bit cooler. Widowmaker Way starts just 0.1 miles away, and the Link 'N' Pin hiking trail and the Lokie's Lollipop mountain bike route are each about 0.2 miles off. For time on the water, the West Fork Dairy Creek paddling route is roughly 6.6 miles away.
