Head of Jack Creek is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Sisters Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about a mile long, with a total elevation gain of 12 feet, so it's a gentle walk that can be done in a single outing. The route starts at the Head of Jack Creek Trailhead, and the trail is natural-surfaced. Bikes and horses are both allowed, which makes it a flexible option for riders and pack animals. The climb is minimal, with the steepest stretch at about a third of a mile in, where the grade reaches about 5 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F, while winter highs there stay in the mid-30s. The trail is open from June 1 through October 31. Jack Creek campground sits about a mile away, and Canyon Creek, a canoeing spot, is roughly 1.8 miles off. Suttle Lake, about 4 miles away, offers lake fishing, and the Becky Johnson Nature Trail is about 3.4 miles away.
