Franklin Ridge is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route starts at about 1,900 feet, rising to a high point of 2,848 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 1.6 miles in, where the grade reaches 31 percent. The total elevation gain is 1,431 feet, and the trip takes about two hours. The route is moderate, and the climb is the main challenge. The high point sits well above the starting elevation, and the trail drops back to nearly the same level on the way down. Larch Mountain and Cougar Rock Trail both lie within half a mile, making it easy to pair this hike with another. Oneonta Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 0.9 miles away, and the Rat Cave climbing area is about 2.5 miles off.
