Dan's Trail is a 2.9-mile point-to-point hike in Oregon's Chip Ross Natural Area, a city-managed natural area. The route gains about 1,000 feet in elevation, from roughly 728 feet at the start to 1,476 feet at the high point, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.96 miles in, with a grade of 24 percent. The trail is rated easy, and it works well for a short outing. It also makes a natural link with other routes in the area. The Main Chip Ross Loop, a mountain biking route, starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Betty Griffiths Trail and Chip Ross Trail are both about 0.4 mile off. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Corvallis show July and August highs in the low 80s with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the upper 40s and rain on most days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The trip takes about 1.5 hours. Bikes and horses are both allowed.
