Black Crater is a hard hike in the Sisters Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest, Oregon, within the Three Sisters Wilderness. The route is an out-and-back of about 7.4 miles, with a total climb of roughly 4,768 feet. The trail starts near 7,180 feet and reaches a high point of about 7,188 feet, so the summit is just past the halfway mark. The steepest part of the climb comes early, with a grade of about 27% at the 0.2-mile mark. The trail is a natural-surface route, and it allows horses but not bikes. The Forest Service manages the surrounding land. Millican Crater lies about 1.8 miles away, and Lava Camp Lake and North Matthieu Lake are each about 2 miles off. Cold Spring campground is about 6.5 miles away.
