Wetmore Campground is a Forest Service campground on Highway 26 in the Whitman Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in northeastern Oregon. It sits along the Journey Through Time Scenic Byway and is one of three Wallowa-Whitman campgrounds on this stretch of the highway. The site offers campsites for tents and small trailers, with three of them accessible. It also has vault toilets, and the Forest Service charges a fee. The campground works well for travelers moving across the state, with picnicking and exploring the byway as popular activities. Large groups have used the site, with picnics held on the large tables by the upper spring. An accessible, barrier-free trail leads to Yellow Pine Campground, about 0.8 miles away. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Austin run to highs of about 83°F in July and August, with only four or five wet days a month in August. Winter brings typical highs in the low 20s, with lows near zero. Winter also brings the most wet days, about 14 a month from December through January. Other places within a short drive include Yellow Pine Campground, Oregon Campground and the North Fork Burnt River, a paddling route, and Antlers Guard Station Cabin.
