Wsm Eq - 1004D is an easy, out-and-back hike in the Choctaw Ranger District of Oklahoma's Ouachita National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 278 feet, and it reaches a high point of about 1,100 feet. The route is natural-surfaced, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.4 miles in, with a grade of about 5%. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Wister run to highs around 72°F in April and 76°F in October, while July and August average highs near 93°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike takes about an hour. Wsm Eq - 1004B and Wsm Eq - 1009 are both within a mile, and the Horsethief - Hilltop hike is about 1.5 miles away. For an overnight stay, Winding Stair campground is about 4.4 miles off.
