Kerr - Soil and You is an easy hike of about 1.6 miles in the Choctaw Ranger District of Oklahoma's Ouachita National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is short and gentle, with a total elevation gain of 84 feet and a loss of 185 feet over the course of the route. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.18 miles in, with a grade of 11 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Smithville, Oklahoma, show April highs around 72°F and October highs around 73°F, while July and August average about 91°F. That station sits roughly 600 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. Two other Kerr trails, Kerr - Struggle for Survival and Kerr - Arboretum, both lie about 0.2 miles away. The Kiamichi River, about 3.4 miles off, offers canoeing, and Winding Stair campground is about 3.5 miles away.
