Horsethief Springs Trail is a 1.5-mile easy hike in the Choctaw Ranger District of Ouachita National Forest in southeastern Oklahoma, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is short and gentle, with a total elevation gain of about 10 feet, so it works well as a quick outing or a stop on the way to other destinations in the area. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Wister show October highs around 76°F with lows near 49°F, and April is similar at about 72°F by day and 47°F at night. Summer is hot, with July and August highs typically in the low 90s. Several other trails start close by. Old Pine is about 0.1 mile away and Cedar Lake about 0.2 mile. Winding Stair campground is roughly 4.4 miles off, and the Kiamichi River, a canoeing route, is about 9.4 miles away.
