Beech Drop is an easy out-and-back hike in the Athens Ranger District of Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio, about 2 miles long with a total elevation gain of 212 feet. The trail rises to a high point of 941 feet and reaches its steepest stretch of about 10% grade at roughly 0.85 miles. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 72°F in May and 76°F in September, while July highs reach about 82°F. That station sits lower than the trail, so temperatures up high run cooler. The Forest Service manages the trail, which is natural-surface and not accessible. Bikes are allowed, but horses are not. The trail stays open year-round. Bloodroot lies about 0.2 miles away, and Thrillium and Salameander are each about 0.8 miles off. For more time in the area, Sunday Creek offers canoeing about 4.9 miles away.
