The Timp
About
The Timp is a summit in New York, about 2.6 miles from the town of Verplanck. It sits at roughly 1,077 feet of elevation, and the Timp Pass Road hike starts just 0.2 miles away, making it the natural way to reach the top. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 83°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the summit, so temperatures on top run a little cooler. Several other trails lie close by. The 1777 Trail is 0.4 miles away and the Horns Route is 0.9 miles away. Climbers can head to Blue Mountain Park, about 4.3 miles off, and paddlers will find the Croton River roughly 8.3 miles away.
