History of Flight: Lower tier is a bouldering area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among several other climbing areas and trails, including Strategic Air Command, Alexander Hamilton and Army Rampart, all about 0.1 mile away, and the White Diamond Trail. The climbing here is all bouldering, with six routes ranging from V0 to V5. The easiest is Run it up the Flagpole at V0, and the hardest is L'Orion and Orion at V5. The routes are clustered close together, so it's easy to move between them. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July peaking near 84°F. The White Diamond Trail starts about 0.1 mile away, and the 7 Hills Trail is about 0.7 mile off. Across the state line in New Jersey, the Ramapo River offers fishing about 4 miles away.
