R Trail is a short, moderate mountain biking route in the Town of Yorktown Parkland, on city-managed land in New York. The trail is an out-and-back with a total length of about 0.24 miles and a total elevation gain of about 11 feet, so it's a quick ride that barely rises above the low point of 584 feet to a high of 601 feet. The climb is flat, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.05 miles in, with a grade of about 3 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Shrub Oak show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 75°F, while July averages about 84°F and January highs sit near 37°F. The trail sits among a cluster of other mountain biking routes, including the Taconic Bridge Trail, the L Trail - Dynamite Run and the B Trail, all within about 0.1 miles. Climbers can find Rocky Glen Pond and Blue Mountain Park about 5.6 miles away.
