Lean-To Campsite #8
Campground
Western Loop is a short, easy loop hike in New York, about 0.4 miles long and rising from roughly 482 feet to 485 feet. The route is a loop, and the climb is gentle, with a total gain of 42 feet and a steepest stretch of about 6% at around 0.2 miles in. The nearest town is Long Ridge, Connecticut, about 1.5 miles away. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Stamford, Connecticut, run to highs around 72°F in May and 76°F in September, while July highs average about 85°F. That station sits about 295 feet lower than the loop, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The loop makes an easy addition to a day spent exploring the surrounding area. Trudeau Boulders and Southern Loop, both climbing areas, are each about 0.2 miles away. The Old Farmland Trail and Todd Pond Trail are each about a mile off.
