Red Cross is a 7.5-mile point-to-point hike in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. The route rises from about 797 feet to a high point of 1,144 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,162 feet. The climb is moderate, and the steepest stretch comes early, with a grade of nearly 49% at about 0.12 miles in. The hike is best planned for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 70°F in May and 74°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 83°F. That station sits roughly 474 feet lower than the high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The 1779 Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Beechy Bottom Road and the North-South Connector are within a mile. Climbers can find Harriman State Park about 4.6 miles off.
