Orange Trail

Orange Trail is a 3.6-mile loop hike in New York, about 1.2 miles from Twin Lakes Village. The trail is rated easy, and the climb totals 393 feet of gain over the course of the loop, with the steepest stretch at about 1.6 miles in, where the grade reaches 38 percent. The trail starts at roughly 840 feet and reaches a high point of 949 feet before descending to a low of 558 feet. That makes the total loss about 814 feet, so the loop is as much about the descent as the climb. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury, Connecticut, show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F. That station sits about 500 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the higher parts of the loop run cooler. Several other trails start close by, including the Yellow Trail, Blue Trail and Old Sib Trail, each about 0.3 miles away. Mountain Lakes, a climbing area, is about 0.4 miles off.
