Photo: Chrisbkes, CC BY 2.0 (via Flickr)Old Sib Preserve Loop is a short, easy hike of about 0.7 miles on county land within Mountain Lakes Camp, a county park in Connecticut. The route is a point-to-point trail that rises from about 896 feet to a high of 966 feet, with a total elevation gain of 107 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.57 miles in, where the grade reaches 10 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, while July peaks near 82°F. That station sits roughly 500 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the loop run a little cooler. The loop pairs easily with other outings in the area. The Yellow Trail and Blue Trail are each about 0.6 miles away, and the Mountain Lakes climbing area is a similar distance off. For time on the water, the Still River offers canoeing about 5.6 miles away.
