Old Roadway is a short, easy hike of about 1.7 miles in Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve in New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The route is nearly flat, with a high point of 103 feet and a low of 88 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 1.5 miles in, with a grade of about 2 percent. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Farmingdale show May highs around 68°F and September highs around 75°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. Several other trails start right next to this one, including Loop 1 Yellow, Loop 4 Yellow and Loop 5 Yellow, each about 0.1 mile away. Farther out, the Long Island Shoreline Route offers canoeing about 8.4 miles away.
