Canine Loop is an easy 0.44-mile hike on County of Suffolk land in New York, about 0.7 miles from West Bay Shore. The trail is nearly flat, with no elevation gain and only a 40-foot drop over its short length. The steepest stretch, a 2% grade, comes about 0.15 miles in, but the walk is otherwise a gentle loop that makes an easy add-on to a day in town. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Farmingdale put May highs around 68°F and September highs around 75°F, with September seeing the fewest wet days of the year. The Fitness Trail sits just 0.1 mile away. Within about 5 miles are Avoid Mud 2, Loop 5 Yellow and the Long Island Shoreline Route, a canoeing route.
