Green Trail is a short, easy hike in New York, about 0.65 miles long and rising roughly 143 feet from its low point of 571 feet to a high of 742 feet. The nearest town is South Salem, about 1.2 miles away. The trail is a point-to-point route, and the climb is gentle overall. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.14 miles in, with a grade of 13 percent. The total descent is 223 feet, so the route is not a loop. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury, Connecticut, show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. The hike takes about half an hour. The Yellow Trail and Blue Trail both start close by, within a quarter mile, and the Orange Trail is about 0.7 miles away. Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a climbing area, is about 3.2 miles off.
