Upper Mesteño is a bouldering area in New Mexico's Cibola National Forest, within the Kiowa/Rita Blanca National Grasslands ranger district. The Forest Service manages the land. It sits among several other climbing spots in the same area, which makes it easy to pair with other days on the rocks. The climbing here is all bouldering, and the 15 routes range from V2+ to V11. Spanish Caravan is a V9 and Metaphorplay a V11, so the area has both easier and harder problems. The Keep and Mega Roof are each about 0.1 mile away, and the Ezekiel Wall Area is about 0.9 mile off. For the most comfortable conditions, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Roy, NM weather station put May highs around 76°F and September highs around 79°F, with lows in the mid-40s. July and August are the warmest months, with highs near 88°F and more wet days. Mills Canyon Rim Campground is about 2.6 miles away and offers a place to stay for an overnight trip.
