Squirrel Run is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.9 miles in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at about 7,095 feet and climbs to about 7,427 feet, with an elevation gain of about 321 feet one way. The most comfortable stretch for a visit runs from late spring through early fall. Typical averages from the Sandia Park weather station, about 10 miles away at a similar elevation, put May highs around 73°F and September highs around 77°F, while July and August average highs near 83°F. Several other short hikes sit close by. Gear Grinder is about 0.2 miles away and Gear Grinder Trail about 0.3 miles. Shooting Marbles is roughly half a mile off, and Pinyon is about 0.6 miles away.
