Rocky Canyon Trail #700 is a hard out-and-back hike in the Wilderness Ranger District of Gila National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The trail stretches about 19 miles round trip, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,009 feet, from a low point of about 6,178 feet to a high of about 7,707 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ft Bayard, which sits roughly 1,600 feet lower than the trail's high point, show October highs around 74°F with lows near 47°F, and May highs around 80°F. July and August bring highs in the upper 80s and about 13 wet days a month. Sapillo Group Campground Road starts just 0.1 mile away.
