Apache Creek Trail #96 is a hard hike in the Wilderness Ranger District of Gila National Forest in New Mexico, about 7 miles from the town of Redstone. The trail is an out-and-back route that covers roughly 17 miles round trip, with a one-way climb of about 1,833 feet from a low point of 6,105 feet to a high of 7,626 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ft Bayard show October highs around 74°F with lows near 47°F, and May highs around 80°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher reaches run cooler. Several other trails and a lake lie within a short drive. Spirit Canyon is less than a mile away, and Lake Roberts South Trail and Purgatory Chasm Trail are each about a mile off. Lake Roberts, a fishing spot, is about 1.1 miles away.
