Placer Fork is a hard hike in the Columbine-Hondo Wilderness, part of the Questa Ranger District of Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail is about 8.7 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 3,749 feet, and it rises from a low point of about 8,474 feet to a high of about 12,239 feet. The route is natural-surface and allows horses, and bikes are not permitted. The Forest Service manages the land. Columbine Canyon starts just 0.1 mile away, and Columbine Creek Trail #71 is about 0.4 mile off. Columbine campground sits roughly 1.9 miles away, and the Red River, a canoeing destination, is about 2.3 miles away.
