Perimeter Trail (290) is an easy out-and-back hike of about 2.7 miles in the Espanola Ranger District of Santa Fe National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts and ends at roughly 7,215 feet and climbs to about 7,566 feet, with a total elevation gain of 233 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Los Alamos weather station show May highs around 70°F and October highs around 63°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 13 to 14 a month. Several other trails sit close by. Woodland Trail is about 0.2 miles away, Upper Walnut and Perimeter are each about 0.3 miles away, and Guaje Canyon Road is about 0.5 miles away. Climbers can find the Los Alamos & White Rock area about 0.8 miles off.
