La Luz is a hard out-and-back hike in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. It covers about 14 miles, with a total elevation gain of roughly 3,367 feet from a low point near 7,026 feet to a high point of about 10,294 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced, not accessible, and bikes are not allowed. The trail is open from April 1 to November 30. The La Luz Trailhead is the starting point, and the climb gets steep as it reaches the high country above 10,000 feet. The Juan Tabo PG climbing area sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Piedra Lisa and CCC Road trails are each within about 0.4 mile. Climbers will also find the Flake n' Bake area about 0.9 mile off.
