Gascon is a hard hike in the Pecos Wilderness, part of the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail is about 7.8 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,490 feet, and it is an out-and-back route. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The hike starts at about 10,084 feet and climbs to about 11,190 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail lies within designated wilderness. Several other routes sit close by. The Bordo Del Medio Trail (252) is about a mile away, and the Old 249 Trail and the Pecos River are each within about 1.4 miles. For an overnight stay, Iron Gate campground is about 8.6 miles away.
