Dome is a hard hike in the Pecos Wilderness, part of the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail is about 12 miles long, with a one-way climb of roughly 1,750 feet from a low point of about 10,770 feet to a high of about 11,680 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surface, with horses allowed and bikes not. The hike starts and ends in the wilderness, so plan for a full day. The closest neighbors are Rio Quemado and Truchas Peak, both about 1.6 miles away. Borrego Mesa campground sits about 2.8 miles off, and Rio Medio is a similar distance.
