Bayo Canyon Access Trail

Bayo Canyon Access Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail is about half a mile long, with a total elevation gain of about 50 feet, and it links the Water Bar Trail and the South Bayo Bench Trail, both of which sit within about a tenth of a mile. The route is a gentle walk between two of the district's other short trails. The high point is about 7,228 feet, and the low point is about 7,165 feet, so the climb is minimal. The trail is an easy way to connect with the network of trails in this part of the forest. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Los Alamos weather station show May highs around 70°F and October highs around 63°F, while July and August bring the most wet days of the year. Climbers can find the Los Alamos & White Rock climbing area about a mile away, and the Homestead Bridge and Pueblo Canyon Areas climbing areas are within about 2 miles.
