Baldy is a hard hike in the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District of Santa Fe National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The out-and-back route is about 12.6 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,515 feet. The trail's lowest point sits at 7,757 feet, and it climbs to a high of about 10,145 feet. The trail is open to both horses and bikes on a natural surface. That makes it a practical choice for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Several other hikes lie close by, including the Vespa Trail and the Sierra Pelada Trail, both within a mile. Apache Canyon is about 1.2 miles away, and the Garcia Ranch Trail is about 3 miles off.
