Bald Mountain Preserve is a climbing area in New Hampshire, about a mile from the town of Marlow. It sits close to several hiking trails, which makes it easy to pair a climb with a walk. The preserve has eight climbing routes, seven of which are traditional and one is sport. The grades run from 5.4 to 5.9 on the YDS scale, with the median at 5.7. Among the named routes are Almost Alpine at 5.4, Fire on the Mountain at 5.9, and Bat Cave at 5.7. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the Mt Sunapee weather station, about 16 miles away, show July highs near 79°F and lows around 59°F, while January highs average just 29°F. The Sands Trail and the Elisabeth B. McIntire Trail both start about 0.1 mile away, and the Gage Trail is about 0.3 mile off. Paddlers can reach the Ashuelot River, roughly 4 miles away.
