Oakey Buttress is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, part of the BLM's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits within designated wilderness, and the land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 70°F in April to 75°F in October, with lows in the 50s. That station sits about 1,250 feet lower than the buttress, so temperatures on the cliff run cooler. The climbing here is all trad, with five routes ranging from 5.7 to 5.9. Summerset and Tres Bon are both 5.7, and Les Miserables is 5.9. The closest neighbors are Black Orpheus Amphitheater and Oak Creek Canyon, each about 0.2 miles away, with Blood Wall and Cactus Flower Tower within a third of a mile.
