Monstro's Gaping Maw is a bouldering area on Bureau of Land Management land in Nevada, within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with The Trophy Wall, Avian Wall and The Twinkie all about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes ranging from V2 to V4-5. Driftwood: A Fairy Tale is a V2, and Salute Your Shorts is the hardest at V4-5. The routes were first ascended between 2015 and 2016. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Turtlehead Peak is a hike 0.4 mile away, and Calico Tanks Trail is 0.6 mile off. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 4.7 miles away.
