The James Brown Area is a climbing area in Nevada on Bureau of Land Management land within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Holiday Wall about 0.1 mile away and The Mass Production Wall and c. Calico Peak each about 0.2 mile off. The area is managed by the BLM. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.10c up to 5.12b. James Brown, the namesake route, is a 5.11d, and Soul Power is another 5.11d. Mirage is the easiest at 5.10c, and Pocket Full of Kryptonite is the hardest at 5.12b. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the area, so temperatures here run cooler. For a change from the rock, Calico Tanks Trail and Turtlehead Peak are both about 0.6 mile away. Red Rock Canyon Campground, roughly 3.8 miles off, offers a place to stay.
