Upper Sharps Canyon is a 1.8-mile out-and-back hike in Nevada's Ruby Mountains Wilderness, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The trail climbs from about 7,550 feet to 8,398 feet, a gain of 1,265 feet, and is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open to horses. The trail is a short, steep climb in a remote wilderness setting. It starts at the lower end of Sharps Canyon and works its way up to the high point before returning. The surrounding area is a network of trails, with Krenka Creek, Ruby Guard and the Krenka 1 Spur A mountain biking route all about half a mile away. Lower Sharps Canyon, a mountain biking route, is just under a mile off. The trail is open year-round, and the surrounding wilderness makes it a destination for a full day of exploring. Paddlers can find the Franklin River about 8 miles away.
