Jack Creek is a hard hike in the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada, about 4 miles from the district's center. The trail is out and back, with a one-way climb of about 1,300 feet from a low point of roughly 6,366 feet to a high of about 7,586 feet. The Forest Service trail is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes. That makes it a versatile route for different riders, though the grade is steep enough to rate the hike as hard. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. At a nearby weather station in Jarbidge, typical July averages run about 83°F for highs and 48°F for lows. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the climb run cooler. Jenny and Clover Trail both start within a mile. Sawmill Campground is about 2 miles away, and the Jarbidge River offers fishing about 3 miles off.
