Altitude Trail is a 3.5-mile out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The route climbs about 980 feet from a low point near 7,450 feet to a high point of about 7,850 feet, with the steepest stretch at roughly 0.87 miles in, where the grade reaches 18%. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surface, allowing bikes. It's a moderate hike that takes about 1.5 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 85°F and lows near 41°F, while winter brings frequent snow days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. Several other routes start within a couple of miles, including Three Day Creek, Jenny Creek and Jenny. Sawmill Campground is about 3 miles away, and the East Fork Jarbidge River offers canoeing at a similar distance.
