Deadman's Canyon is an easy out-and-back hike in Nevada's Mt. Moriah Wilderness, within the Ely Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The route is 2.2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 553 feet, and it is managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at about 8,460 feet and climbs to a high point of 8,949 feet, with the steepest stretch coming within the first tenth of a mile, where the grade reaches about 14%. The climb is front-loaded, and the route returns to the starting point with the same loss of elevation. Horses are allowed, and the trail surface is natural. The hike is open year-round and typically takes about an hour. The nearest town is Ely, and the trailhead sits within the wilderness, so plan for a wilderness outing with no developed facilities along the way. Nearby, Timber Creek is about a mile away, and the Chalk Creek Trail, Big Canyon and Rye Grass Canyon are each within about 2.3 miles.
