Bobsled is a short, easy hike in the Carson Ranger District of Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 1.5 miles long, with a round trip of roughly 3 miles, and it gains about 800 feet of elevation, so it works well as a quick outing. The trail starts at a high point of about 6,044 feet and reaches a low of about 5,666 feet before returning. The steepest stretch comes near the midpoint at about 0.66 miles, with a grade of around 14 percent. At that point, the climb is a little more demanding than the rest of the route. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Stead weather station put May highs around 69°F and September highs around 79°F. That station sits roughly 900 feet lower than the trail's high point, so expect temperatures on the hike to run cooler. Colpo Canyon and the CJ TRAIL are both about 0.1 mile away, and the Basque Boulders climbing area is about 2.4 miles off.
