Blackjack is an easy, short out-and-back hike in the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, which straddles Nevada and California. The route starts at a low point of about 7,235 feet and reaches a high of roughly 7,380 feet, with a total round-trip gain of about 320 feet. The trail is less than a mile long, and the steepest stretch comes right at the beginning, with a grade of about 19 percent for the first 0.06 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Incline Village weather station, which sits about 1,000 feet lower than the trail, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 50°F. Winter there is cold, with January highs around 41°F and lows near 24°F. The hike takes about half an hour. Within a short drive are Allison Ridge, about 1.2 miles away, and Rose Knob Peak and Lunar, both about 1.5 miles out. Mt. Rose Campground, roughly 4.7 miles away, offers a place to stay.
