Scarecase Cliffs is a climbing area in southwest Montana, on Bureau of Land Management land in the Butte Field Office. It sits within the Butte Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, about 10 miles from Butte. The area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The route list is small but varied, with five traditional routes ranging from 5.8 to 5.12. Winston Hough first climbed two of them in 1985, and Ian Cavanaugh added "Tat Tvam Asi" in 2011. "Tabula Rasa," at 5.12b, is the hardest of the bunch. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. July typically brings highs around 81°F and lows near 46°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station in Butte. Winters are cold, with January highs around freezing. The closest neighbor is Dragon's Back, about 0.2 miles away, and Gillette Edge is 1.8 miles off. Mountain bikers can ride the BLM 14 and BLM 20 trails, each about 2 miles away. For overnight stays, Toll Mountain Campground is roughly 5 miles away.
