Pine is a hard hike in the Three Rivers Ranger District of Montana's Kootenai National Forest, about 9 miles long with a one-way elevation gain of 2,397 feet. The trail rises from a low point of 2,682 feet to a high of 5,778 feet, and it is an out-and-back route. The trail is open from May 1 to November 30, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail surface is natural, and the route allows both horses and bikes. The Pine Newton TH 208 trailhead is the parking for this trip. Tepee Mountain and Newton Gulch are both about 1.8 miles away, and Wampoo is about 2.5 miles off. For an overnight stay, Yaak Falls Campground sits about 4.4 miles from the trail.
